Mysuru: ‘Sarod Swarayana,’ a literary work featuring renowned Sarod exponent late Pandit Rajeev Taranath, that saw its third print, was released at Pandit Rajeev Taranath Memorial Programme, organised at Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal (KSGH) Music and Performing Arts University auditorium in the city on June 11.
The book brought out under the guidance of Ganesh Ameengad and Raghupathi Tamankar as Joint Editors, was released by Sitar exponent C.S. Sarvamangala.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarvamangala said, ‘Pandit Rajeev Taranath’s mind was like a bridge. He was always grasping the sensitivity associated with music to experience its essence and enrich it further, by opening himself to the world of literature, living the life where music was his breath.’
Taranath lived for the cause of nurturing music for posterity and had dedicated every moment of his life for this noble deed. Those who were in the inner circle of Taranath and were widely influenced by his personality that elevated them further are experiencing emptiness, she rued.
With his death, Mysuru has lost a light that brightened vastly, while the field of music is suffering from an irreplaceable loss. The reason behind all was Taranath, who was a treasure trove of music, provoking thoughts and lived with pro-people concerns.
Students should read books on Pt. Taranath to peek into the life and thoughts and the music and the genre, that may serve as a beacon of hope in their musical journey, advised Sarvamangala.
Taranath learnt music since his childhood days. If not Sarod exponent, he would have become a great vocalist. He had also learnt tabla, said Sarvamangala.
Theatre person Srinivas Kappanna, Vice-Chancellor of Music University Dr. Nagesh V. Bettakote, Registrar Prof. M.G. Manjunath and others were present on the occasion.
