Sewage Treatment Plant at Koorgalli Lake: HC issues show-cause notice to Mysuru DC for Contempt of Court

July 17, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: The Karnataka High Court (HC) has issued a contempt notice to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner (DC) for failing to comply with an earlier Court order that directed the District Administration to take action against the official who granted permission for the establishment of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Koorgalli Lake in the outskirts of the city.

Mahadev and Devegowda, residents  of Koorgalli, had filed in the HC questioning the permission given for setting up of the Plant at Koorgalli Lake.

A Division Bench of the HC headed by Chief Justice A.S. Oka, which heard the petition on Thursday, ordered issuance of a show-cause notice to Mysuru DC, asking why action should not be initiated for failing to comply with the Court order.

Mahadev and Devegowda, in their petition, had argued that the STP was coming up in an area coming under Koorgalli Survey No. 160, which indeed is part of Koorgalli Lake and sought directions from the Court for taking action against the official who granted permission for the setting up of the Plant there.

The Court had ordered submission of a report by Mysuru DC in this regard. But though the hearing of the case came up two times, the DC failed to submit the report and during the second  hearing held on June 25, the Government advocate had argued that the then DC has been transferred.

The Court then directed the District Administration to submit the report in two weeks. But as the District Administration again failed to comply with the Court order, the HC issued a show-cause notice for Contempt of Court, it is learnt.
