Shaheed Diwas observed in city

March 23, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru:  A seminar marked the observance of Shaheed Diwas (the death anniversary of freedom fighters) of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar.

The seminar was organised by the Mysuru District Committee of Indian People Theatre Association (IPTA) at K.V. Bhavan on Kamakshi Hospital Road in Saraswathipuram this morning.

Addressing the gathering, veteran Communist leader H.R. Sheshadri remembered the sacrifices made by the three great freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for the sake of the country’s independence.

Noting that Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev should have been the source of inspiration for the youths of the present generation, Sheshadri felt that it has not been so due to the attitude of the present generation. Stressing on the need for the younger generation to be more thoughtful, he said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh always followed values, virtue and integrity.

Alleging that the current rulers of the country were intolerant to freedom of expression, Sheshadri said that people who speak against the Government are being charged with sedition cases, which is posing a serious threat to a healthy democracy.

He called upon the youths to learn about the sacrifices made by the great freedom fighters for the cause of the nation.

Senior Trade Union leader Ayyappa Hoogar too spoke. IPTA Mysuru President K.S. Revanna and others were present.

Shaheed Diwas was also observed by Yuva Bharath Sanghatane at Freedom Fighters Park on N.S. Road. The observance was marked by offering floral tributes to the statue of freedom fighters and planting of sapling.
