Somanathapura Temple main attraction at Dasara Flower Show in Kuppanna Park

September 15, 2017

Mysuru: Nature has created seasons and each one of them has its own significance. After bountiful rain, the flowers bloom, trees and plants turn green and there is a festive atmosphere in the air. This is the time when the Flower Show as part of the Dasara festival is also organised by the Horticulture Department.

Somanathapura Temple theme: Every year, the Dasara Flower Show comes out with a new theme and it is no different this year when the gardenistas, florists and the public throng the Kuppanna Park on Lokaranjan Mahal Road to see the Somanathapura Temple in floral splendour at the glasshouse being constructed.

The Flower Show will be inaugurated on Sept. 21 at 4.30 pm. The main attraction of the flower show is the Somanathapura Temple built in the Hoysala style at Somanathapura, 35 kms from Mysuru, during the rule of third Hoysala ruler Narasimharaja in 1268. The Horticulture department is going to come out with the stunning replica of the temple.

Website Launch: The Horticulture Department will launch the website on Sept.16 during the press conference where the complete details of the flower show including the programmes and the details of the show will be shared.

Musical Fountain and Laser Show: The flower show will showcase a variety of programmes, like every year. But, this year there will be some more additions. Along with the musical fountain, Kuppanna Park will also be witness to a spectacular laser show on Vijayadashami.

LCD Screen: Earlier, the flower show was being marred by display of flex advertisements. In order to put a ban on flexes, this year a giant LCD screen will be installed where those who are interested in advertising their products, can see them colourfully displayed on the screen. Even those who want to send greetings or wishes can send video clippings which will be displayed at a cost.

Buddha Statue: Just like the statue of horticulture architect M.H. Marigowda was installed last year, this year using dicotyledon seeds a giant statue of Buddha will be installed. Along with this, many other designs will be created and put up.

Floral Decorations: The Department is already growing more than two lakh varieties of saplings. Last year the plants and flowers were arranged like a vertical garden and this year it will be different. The highlight will be the rangoli floral and Indian floral rangoli contest.

Horticulture Stalls: There will be stalls set up in which the products related to horticulture will be displayed and an organic mela will also be organised.
