Special drive on autos held in Mysuru

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Traffic Police, in a bid to curb traffic rules violations by autorickshaw drivers, conducted a special drive on autorickshaws at various Traffic Police Station limits in city this morning.

The special drive is also being held to check harassment of passengers, demanding excess fare, behaving indecently, involving in illegal activities, driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotic substances, encouraging tourists in illegal activities, driving autorickshaws without valid driving licence, insurance and permit, parking autos haphazardly and obstructing flow of traffic, ferrying passengers more than the prescribed limit etc. by  auto drivers

In one of the special drives held at JLB Road junction near Institution of Engineers here, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) G.N. Mohan, along with KR Traffic Inspector R. Jagadeesh and staff of KR Traffic Police Station, conducted the checking.

The Police personnel checked whether the driver was having the valid Driving Licence (DL), insurance of the vehicle, permit, whether the driver has put the Driver’s Information Board in the auto besides checking for any previous violations for which the driver has not paid the fine.

ACP Mohan, personally stopped autorickshaws ferrying passengers and asked the passengers whether the driver had demanded excess fare, whether he behaved decently, agreed to come to their desired destination etc.

The special drive on autorickshaws will be held once a month and the next special  drive would be undertaken on KSRTC buses.

The Police personnel also advised auto drivers to be polite with passengers and bring a good name to Mysuru as lakhs of tourists visit city every year.
