Special lecture on “Recent Advances in Food Technology”

Mysuru: A special lecture on “Recent Advances in Food Technology” was organised by the Microbiological Society, Department of Post Graduate Studies in Microbiology, Maharani’s Science College for Women, Mysuru, recently.

The lecture was delivered by Karamveer Chakra awardee Dr. Renu Agrawal, Ex-Chief Scientist, Rural Development Coordinator and Project Advisor, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru. She spoke about the significance of food-borne pathogens and their detection using Immunological and Molecular Techniques.

Highlighting the use of natural colours obtained from micro-organisms that can be used as food colours, she emphasised on hazard analysis critical control point and recent advances in good manufacturing practices, apart from giving information on the health benefits of pre-biotic and pro-biotics.

Umashankari, first year M.Sc., student, rendered the invocation. Supriya S. Khammar welcomed. Dr. Syeda Kousar Fatima, Associate Professor and President of Microbiological Society, briefed about the activities of Society.

Dr. K. Girish, Assistant Professor and Organising Secretary, read the annual report. Pooja Bharanaiah of first year M.Sc. introduced the guest speaker.

Dr. B.P. Dayanand, Principal in-charge presided. Ashika of first year M.Sc. proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by Varsha of second year M.Sc.  All the faculty members and M.Sc. Microbiology students were present on the occasion.
