‘Sports helps to evolve a responsible citizen’

A National Seminar on ‘Sports and personality development’ was organised by Basudev Somani College at its premises in Kuvempunagar here on Tuesday.

The seminar featured technical sessions where resource persons explained the importance of sports in developing physique and personality of a person.

Inaugurating the programme, University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar opined that students should take part in co-curricular activities like NCC, NSS and sports to become strong and disciplined. He added that such activities would reform a student to become a responsible citizen by tuning the body and mind.

Delivering the keynote address, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (Chennai) VC Dr. Sheila Stephen said that human resources contribute to growth of the nation.

Addressing the gathering, The Institute of Education Trust (IET)-Mysuru Managing Trustee Dr. M. Puttaswamy opined that sports persons representing the country at National and International levels are basically trained at the College level and asked Physical Education Trainers to groom the students accordingly.

Department of Collegiate Education Joint Director Prof. R. Murugeshappa, former Professor of Department of Physical Education & Sports Sciences (UoM) Dr. M. Chandrakumar, in-Charge Director of Department of Physical Education (UoM) Dr. P. Krishnaiah and IET Chairman and Managing Trustee H.N. Nagaraj were the guests of honour.

Basudev Somani College Principal Dr. M. Mahadevaiah presided. Seminar Secretary Prof. N.S. Venugopal, Organising Secretary Prof. B. Sadashiva Bhat and others were present during the occasion.
