Mysuru: The Government of India has brought out a commemorative stamp on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu and it will be released on Dec. 29 (tomorrow) at Kuppalli, the birthplace of the poet laureate. The stamp will be released by Union Minister for Statistics D.V. Sadananda Gowda on the occasion of Vishvamanava Day to mark the 113th birth anniversary of Kuvempu.
On the occasion, Kuvempu Samagra Sahityamaale (Second Edition) will be released by Karnataka Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa and a book Chita Ramayana Darshanam (authored by H. Kaushik) based on Kuvempu’s Sri Ramayana Darshanam will be released by Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree. Litterateur Prof. Baragur Ramachandrappa will deliver the keynote address.
The stamp commemorating Kuvempu is part of a set of five on eminent writers including Krishan Chander, Srilal Sukla, Balwant Gargi and Bhisham Sahni. A stamp on Kuvempu has been a long-pending demand and proposals from the State government for the same have been a regular political feature.
The University of Mysore had year-long centenary celebrations in 2016 and there was a proposal for a stamp but only a special cover was released. The stamp will have a face value of Rs. 10. These three stamps are among the 20 approved along with 18 other thematic issues.
