Mysore/Mysuru: A girl student, allegedly committed suicide by hanging self at the college hostel room at Siddarthanagar in city yesterday, ahead of her exam.

The girl, who ended her life is J. Shakeena (20), daughter of Jayaraj and Shanthi couple, residents of Martalli village, Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district. She was pursuing her final year BSc course at Teresian College and was staying in the College hostel.

Shakeena, who had her breakfast at the hostel yesterday morning, went to her room and did not come out even after long hours resulting in the hostel staff breaking open the room door only to see Shakeena hanging from the ceiling fan.

It is said that she was to take up the Physics exam at 9.30 am yesterday but she went to her room and had locked it from inside at about 9 am.

According to Nazarbad Police, the reason for Shakeena to take the extreme step is not known. Police said that the girl had not taken up exams of a few subjects previously, which may have resulted in her ending her life.

The Police further said that there are rumours that she committed suicide as she was not allowed to take up the exams. On examining the CCTV footages, Shakeena had not gone to the exam room. At about 12.30 pm, her roommates came to the hostel only to find the room locked from inside. They then started banging on the door but as there was no response from inside, the roommates informed the hostel staff, who broke open the door to find Shakeena had committed suicide.
