Students throng Crawford Hall to apply for Convocation

April 22, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Even as the Government issued a new set of tougher and stricter SOPs to contain the spread of the second wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students coming under University of Mysore (UoM), thronged Crawford Hall, the University’s administrative headquarters in city this morning to apply for the convocation, with the deadline scheduled to end this evening.

With the students visiting in droves from the four districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan, which come under the University’s jurisdiction, Crawford Hall witnessed a huge crowd today, with the Police having a tough time in the enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines and regulation of students.

Speaking to Star of Mysore on the huge crowd of students rushing to Crawford Hall to apply for the Convocation and payment of fees before today’s’ deadline ended, UoM Registrar Prof. Shivappa said that the University had planned much earlier to hold the Convocation at the end of this month or the first week of next month. Accordingly, the University had set Apr. 22 as the deadline for students to apply for the convocation.

With today being the last day, the students, who perhaps may have waited for the KSRTC strike to end, got panicked and are rushing to the Crawford Hall to apply. Asserting that there is no need for the students to panic, Prof. Shivappa said that the students may possibly get another chance to apply as the convocation may not take place at the end of this month or early next month, as planned earlier.

Declining to say whether the deadline will be extended, Prof. Shivappa reiterated that there is no cause for students to panic and said the students may get another chance to get their degrees.
