Surrender unauthorised BPL cards, avoid penalty

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs have taken steps to identify people who have obtained Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards by providing false informations. Those people in possession of such unauthorised BPL cards should surrender the cards or face action and recovery of money equivalent of the food grains obtained using the card adding a penalty to that. People who are not eligible for BPL cards are as follows: Families paying Income Tax, Service Tax, Professional Tax and VAT; People owning 3 hectare dry land or equivalent wet land in rural area or property above 1,000 sq.ft in urban area; People owning cars and People with family annual income above Rs. 1.2 lakh.
