Swarasankula brings out documentaries on Pt. Indudhar Nirody & Dr. Jagannath Shenoy

Mysuru: Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru and Kannadi Creations have jointly organised a programme at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar on Nov.10 at 5 pm to release documentaries on the life and times of two great personalities of Mysuru city — Pt. Indudhar Nirody and Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy.

The documentaries’ concept is by Dr. M.S. Bhaskar, directed by Ranjith Setu and Dr. M.C. Manohar under the supervision of Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath. S.K. Lakshminarayana and Jayaram Patil will be releasing the documentaries in the presence of Dr. Jagannath Shenoy.

The release will be followed by Pt. Ramarao V. Naik Memorial Hindustani Classical Music Concert by Pt. Nishad Bakre, Pune. He will be accompanied by Pt. Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium.

Profiles

Pt. Indudhar Nirody, the Doyen of Agra Gharana, started his musical journey at a very young age. Having received systematic training in music, he imbibed some of the finest aspects of Ragadhari sangeeth from his Gurus. In the year 1955, at the age of 20, he won first prize in AIR competition and received the coveted prize at the hands of the then President of India Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad.

A stickler to the tradition, he has been honoured with ‘Gaurav Prashasthi’ from Karnataka Sangeetha and Nrutya  Academy, ‘Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan Puraskar’ from Government of Karnataka, ‘Guruvarya Sawai Gandharava Rashtriya Sangeetha Puraskar-2015’, ‘Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award-2015’ and Hon. Doctorate from Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music & Performing Arts University, Mysuru.                                                

Pt. Nirody’s notable achievement in the field of music was the successful completion of Audio Recording of all 1,896 compositions which are in Kramik Pustak Malika published by Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande. The audio recordings, titled ‘Samarpan,’ was released for the benefit of music connoisseurs in 2015  by Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha.

Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy, a great visionary and philanthropist, took over the management of Mangalore Ganesha Beedi Works at a very young age.

Founder of DMS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in Belavadi, Solar Electricity Plant in Tumakuru, Silent Shores Hotel in Mysuru and Govinda Rao Memorial School, Mysuru, he is also the President of Saraswathi Vidya and Cultural Trust, GSSS and Trustee of Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala.

His contribution towards cultural activity of the city is immense. There is no music organisation in Mysuru which has not received his patronage. He is the also the President of Raaga Vaibhava Charitable Trust and SPVGMC Trust in V.V. Mohalla.

His interest towards the renovation of the famous Sri Bidaram Krishnappa’s Prasanna Seetharama Mandira is noteworthy. He has contributed towards the  construction of  two big auditoriums in Mysuru — Ramagovinda Kalavedike in Kuvempunagar and RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar.

Trustee of Kamakshi Hospital, Mysuru, he is the President of GSB Charitable Trust and Gowda Saraswatha Brahmana Sabha.

Dr. Shenoy has been the backbone of Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha since its inception in 2004 to promote Hindustani Classical Music.

In recognition to his contribution towards society, he has received many honours, accolades and titles. He received Hon. Doctorate from Sri Lanka Open University, ‘Manava Ratna’ award from Rotary Club, Mysuru, ‘Karnataka Kanmani’ from Credit-I, an NGO and ‘Valuable Citizen of Mysuru-2018’ from Mysuru Literary Forum and Charitable Trust.

Pt. Nishad Bakre, who will perform on the occasion, is an exponent of 3 Gharanas — Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur. He can render the forms of these Gharanas at command along with flow of creative exploration. He has had the privilege to learn from Gurus like Pt. Ramdesh Ponde, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, Dr. Arun Dravid and Pt. Madhukar Joshi. He has received many awards and accolades.
