Sir,
This is to bring to the notice of the officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and other civic authorities the deplorable condition of our city’s roads, including many major thoroughfares.
As we all know, the monsoon has arrived early, bringing joy to farmers and others. However, the incessant rains, which have only just begun, are already exposing the poor state of our roads.
The asphalt on many roads, which was already weak and unstable, is deteriorating rapidly with the onset of rainfall.
I had written in this column multiple times last year about how the MCC, as a cost-cutting measure, undertook only superficial patchwork repairs. Those patches have now eroded, reopening the same potholes — proving that the previous effort was nothing more than an eyewash.
With the patched sections now washed away, the roads are more dangerous than ever, especially with more rain expected in the coming months.
This situation also highlights the extent of corruption embedded in the substandard contracts and tenders awarded by the MCC. How can a road repair last barely 6 to 7 months? Mysuru once prided itself on well-maintained roads, clean surroundings and citizen-friendly governance.
Sadly, the city now finds itself mired in controversy and corruption. The prolonged delay in holding elections to MCC wards has further contributed to this administrative failure.
I sincerely appeal to MCC authorities to at least act now. I urge them to inspect major roads around the Central Business District, including Hardinge Circle, Nazarbad Main Road, SP Office Circle and other key stretches and begin immediate restoration work so that tax-paying citizens can travel safely and comfortably.
