Thousands run Dasara Marathon

More than 3,000 athletes took part in the Dasara Half Marathon held in city this morning.

District Minister V. Somanna flagged off the event organised by Dasara Sports Sub-Committee at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium. The organisers also felicitated Manasi Girishchandra Joshi, a para athlete, who is currently world number 2 in SL3 Women’s Badminton.

The 21K Half Marathon, which started from Chamundi Vihar Stadium, passed through Gopal Gowda Hospital, Karanji Lake Circle, Kurubarahalli Circle, Alanahalli Circle, H.D. Deve Gowda Circle-Ring Road Junction, Sathagalli Bus Stand, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Columbia Asia Junction, FTS Circle, Five Lights Circle, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle on Bengaluru-Mysuru Road, SP Office, Government Guest House and culminated at the starting point.

Apart from Half Marathon, 10K Run and 5K Run were also organised. Athletes from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Hassan, Tumakuru, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Udupi and other districts took part in the event. Even foreign students studying in Mysuru had also registered for the event.

Results

21K — Men: 1. Praveesh (South Western Railway), 2. Chandrashekar (Bengaluru), 3. Mikiyas (Ethiopia); Women:              1. Kiran Sahadev (Bengaluru), 2. Preenu Yadav (Bengaluru), 3. K.M. Archand (Mysuru).

10K — Men: 1. Siddappa Nagappa Gurdgi, 2. K.K. Venkatesh (Bengaluru), 3. T.S. Sandeep (Tumakuru); Women: 1. Thippavva Sannakki (Mysuru), 2. C.M. Rashi (Bengaluru), 3. Rashmi Kumari (Bengaluru).

5K — Men: 1. P. Shivaji (Uttara Kannada), 2. Chandan Kumar (B’luru), 3. Bhima Shakar (Kodagu); Women: 1. Madalambika, 2. S. Keerthana, 3. K.M. Nisarga  (all from Kurbur, T. Narasipur).
