Ramzan, Akshaya Trithiya, Basava Jayanthi
Mysore/Mysuru: Three festivals, Ramzan, Akshaya Trithiya and Basava Jayanthi are falling on the same day tomorrow. But in view of total lockdown, these festivals are restricted to homes with ban on movement of people and crowded gatherings. The Muslim brethren celebrate Ramzan festival by holding mass prayers and exchanging greetings with family and friends.
Taj Mohammed Khan, Hon. Secretary, Farooquia Educational Institutions, told Star of Mysore that in view of COVID crisis and complete lockdown, it has been decided to celebrate festival within homes. Prayers will also be held at homes that too with social distancing and wearing mask. There will be no mass prayer at any mosque in city. In this current extraordinary situation, they have decided to celebrate festival in a simple manner.
All shops closed: Over 1,000 jewellery shops in district, including 750 in city, will remain closed tomorrow due to lockdown. Though thousands of people throng the shops to buy jewellery on the occasion of Akshaya Trithiya, this time, no shop will be open, said C.S.Amarnath, President, Shroff Traders Association.
He said the Association has decided to shut their business tomorrow following total lockdown. “We are praying for ‘Akshaya’ of people’s health as COVID virus has snuffed out several lives in second wave,” he said.
Meanwhile, K.V. Mallesh, a Janata Dal (Secular) leader, said this time, Basava Jayanthi will be restricted to just garlanding the statue of Basavanna near Gun House Circle. There will be no celebration either by the District Administration or by private organisations tomorrow, he added.
