Search launched to trace cub’s mother
Mysore/Mysuru: The Forest Department has rescued a tiger cub aged between 2 and 3 months near Gurupura Tibetan Colony in Hunsur taluk yesterday morning and are taking care of the cub.
Yesterday at about 10 am, Colony residents heard frail cries resembling a kitten near J. Village at Gurupura in Veeranahosahalli limits, coming under Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. Upon going near, they saw a tiger cub and immediately informed the Forest officials of Veeranahosahalli Range. Forest officials and staff, who rushed to the spot, confirmed that the tiger cub was alone and rescued it. They then shifted the cub to Veeranahosahalli Range Office, where the veterinarians examined the tiger cub and came to know that it was a female tiger cub aged between two and three months old which was suffering from hunger since about three days. The Forest staff then fed the cub and the veterinarians are keeping a watch on its health.
Though a tiger was spotted in the forest border near Gurupura Tibetan Colony, it had not caused any trouble and the Forest Department officials are wondering from where this tiger cub had come.
The Forest Department has launched a search operation to trace the tiger cub’s mother using a drone camera to reunite the cub. There are chances of two to three tiger cubs in the region and this particular tiger cub may have been left back when the mother tiger was relocating her cubs.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Lakshmikanth, Veeranahosahalli Range Forest Officer (RFO) Vinod Gowda, Veterinarian Dr. Adarsh and staff took part in the tiger cub rescue operation.
