Mysuru:  “In the present day world everyone has information easily available at fingertips. But how one uses it wisely to one’s  advantage by using one’s intelligence for everyone’s advantage is the key,” said IIM Kozhikode Director Prof. Debashis Chatterjee.

He was speaking at a workshop on Leadership 4.0 organised by IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Kozhikode in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Mysuru and said if one has these qualities only then can one be a successful leader. However, such leadership qualities are sadly lacking in today’s leaders, he regretted.

Earlier, inaugurating the workshop, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysore Royal family said Mysuru is the best place in South India for showcasing entrepreneurship skills. Mysuru is already known for many established industries like Mysuru Sandal Soap, Mysuru Silk etc., and added to this there are many more industries.

If one thinks as a global citizen in the present day world, Mysuru has instilled in us a tradition. As a person from a royal background I have tried to understand about these things more and more in the last four years. Such workshops and seminars will help develop leadership qualities and responsibilities, said Yaduveer.

CII Mysuru Chairman Bhaskar Kalale said the first lesson in leadership is to see that one does not teach but allow one to work in a free atmosphere. As a leader, one’s responsibility is only to tell what work one should do and not how to do it.

A leader should be technically efficient, administratively honest and should be a creative person and in addition to all this one should have a vision and should always know that an organisation is bigger than oneself. Likewise, one should have a keenness to learn more and more and interact with people who know more than you and all this is what helps develop leadership qualities, he said.

Star of Mysore Editor-in-Chief K.B. Ganapathy, industrialist B.R. Pai, CII Mysuru Vice-Chairman Amit Kumar and others were present. Nearly 200 people participated in the workshop.
