Truck theft: Seven including buyer arrested

Stolen truck worth Rs. 10 lakh recovered; Three two-wheelers, five cell phones seized

Mysore/Mysuru: Narasimharaja (NR) Police, on June 16, have arrested six persons on charges of stealing a truck after threatening the driver with a knife and have also arrested a person, who had bought the stolen truck.

The arrested are 33-year-old Mudasir Pasha of Shanthinagar, 25-year-old Salman Khan, 27-year-old Mohammed Hussain and 31-year-old Taminulla Shariff of Rajivnagar, 31-year-old Mohammed Jawad of Shanthinagar and 30-year-old Salman Khan (buyer) of Mandi Mohalla.

On June 16, when the NR Police were on their regular beat at S.S. Nagar in Bannimantap, they saw Mudasir and Salman, who were coming on a scooter, take a sudden turn on seeing them. The two were carrying the diesel tank guard, parts of the truck cabin and the truck’s front name board with the name Sanjay Ramasamy on it.

The Police, on suspicion, chased the scooter and caught the duo. During interrogation at the Police Station, accused Mudasir and Salman is said to have revealed that they along with four of their accomplices had stolen a Tamil Nadu registration 12-wheel truck near Lalithadri Nagar on the Ring Road about three days ago after threatening the lorry driver with a dagger.

They then brought the lorry to a scrap yard (Gujari) on Srinivasa Talkies Road, where the front  and the side cabin were dismantled. Mudasir and Salman were carrying a few dismantled parts on the scooter to be sold when they were caught.

Based on the information provided by the two, the Police arrested the remaining four persons, besides arrested the person, who had received the stolen truck. Following their arrest, the Police have solved one case of extortion in Mysuru South Police Station limits. The accused had stolen the truck to lead a posh life, it is learnt.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna and NR Sub-Division ACP Shivashankar guided NR Inspector Azaruddin, Sub-Inspector Ashwini, ASI Papanna and staff R.R. Manjunath, Y.T. Mahesh, Doddegowda, S. Ramesh, C. Sunil Kumar and K. Eshwar took part in the nabbing and seizing operation, according to a press release from the City Police Commissioner’s Office.
