Two boys on fishing trip drown in River Cauvery

February 13, 2023

Kushalnagar: Two boys, who had gone for fishing, were reportedly drowned in River Cauvery (Kaveri) at Koodlur village in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased boys are Pruthvi (7), son of Nagaraj, a labourer and Prajwal (4), son of auto driver Satish, both residents of Koodlur village. While Pruthvi was a 2nd standard student at the nearby Government School, Prajwal was studying at the Anganwadi centre.

Yesterday morning, Pruthivi and Prajwal left their house carrying their lunch saying that they were going fishing and reached River Cauvery, opposite the mango grove in Koodlur. As the boys did not return home till late afternoon, their family members went in search of them and found the body of one of the boys floating in the river. A few swimmers jumped into the river and made a futile bid to trace the body of another boy.

Meanwhile, Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel also arrived at the spot and launched a search operation to trace and fish out the body of another boy. They found the boy’s body stuck at the bottom of the river and fished it out.

It is suspected that the boys may have slipped and fell into the river and got drowned.

Both the bodies were shifted to Kushalnagar Government Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the bodies were later handed over to their family members.  MLA Appachu Ranjan visited Koodlur village and consoled the family members.

Kushalnagar Rural Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
