Heinous crime reported from a house in Srirangapatna and a saw mill in Hunsur

Hunsur/ Srirangapatna: Four murders and one attempt to murder took place in the last 24 hours in Hunsur and Srirangapatna taluks. While two under-five-year-old children were killed by their own father with a hammer near a village in Srirangapatna, one of the two victims in Hunsur is mentally challenged.

The double murder in the saw mill in Hunsur town has left the community in a state of shock. The victims were two watchmen employed at the saw mill. They have been identified as Venkatesh (75) from Kalkunike Ranganatha Layout and Shanmukha (65). The incident occurred at Hunsur town near the Parasayyana Chhatra (shed) on Boti Bazaar Road adjacent to S.S. Sawmill.

Tragically, both individuals were brutally bludgeoned to death on Wednesday night and the assailant used a heavy object to deliver fatal blows to their heads. Shanmukha was reported to be mentally challenged, making this incident even more distressing.

Venkatesh and Shanmukha were known to be engaged in various small tasks in the vicinity. While Venkatesh worked at the same shop, Shanmukh used to sleep near the mill and engage in minor work. The motive behind this heinous crime is yet to be ascertained.

While the primary suspect in this gruesome crime is believed to have ties to the timber mafia operating in the area, the Police are actively investigating all possible angles to solve the case. Local residents said that an organised gang was attempting to steal timber from the saw mill and they wanted to eliminate the watchmen.

Dog squad and fingerprint expert team have arrived and are conducting spot mahazar. Hunsur Town Police have registered a case.
