Two get life imprisonment for murdering woman

November 8, 2017

Mysuru: City’s Third Additional Sessions Court Judge S. Surendranath has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment and Rs. 5,000 fine each for murdering a Tamil Nadu-based woman five years ago in T. Narasipur Police limits.

Those who were sentenced to life have been identified as Pukaramma and Anand. The two, on Aug. 20, 2012, had murdered one Mariapushpam, a native of Periyanayakan Palyam in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu and had fled with gold jewellery.

Mariapushpam, who was an Amway Trading member, had joined Pukaramma as a member and had given Rs. 10,000 as loan to be given as security deposit after taking a demand pronote from Pukaramma. As Pukaramma failed to return the loan amount, frequent quarrels ensued between the two and Mariapushpam had warned of registering a case in the Court if Pukaramma did not return the money.

Pukaramma, who got scared over Mariapushpam’s warning, hatched a plot along with Anand, a person known to her, to murder Mariapushpam and loot the gold jewellery from the house.

They then approached Mariapushpam and asked her to accompany them as they wanted to introduce their friends who wanted to become members of the Trading company. The unsuspecting Mariapushpam, accompanied the two to a field in Mugur village in T. Narasipur Police limits, where they gave her sedatives and strangulated her to death besides escaping with phone, cash and gold jewellery worn by Mariapushpam.

T. Narasipur Police, who had registered a case, conducted investigation and nabbed the two accused besides submitting a charge-sheet against the two with the Court. The Judge, who heard the arguments, held the two guilty of the crime and sentenced the two to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor Vasanthi M. Angadi argued on behalf of the Government.
