ULBs must issue e-Khatas in time-bound manner

December 4, 2024

Sir,

The crisis-ridden Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has decided to transfer all allied services related to property and land to the jurisdictional Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) such as the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), City Municipal Councils (CMCs), Town Panchayats (TPs) and Gram Panchayats (GPs).

It is important to note that now the ULBs will start fleecing the transferred property owners to get a new Khata from them.

The Government must mandate a streamlined, time-bound process for ULBs to issue e-Khatas to all property owners who previously held Khatas with MUDA and were regularly paying taxes.

Property owners must not be forced to endure bureaucratic hurdles, running from pillar to post to obtain their new Khatas, only to face another round of procedures for e-Khatas.

Civic organisations like the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) should step up and advocate for a hassle-free e-Khata issuance process, ensuring that the transition to ULBs does not become a source of inconvenience for property owners.

Additionally, MUDA must publish clear announcements in all Mysuru newspapers, listing the layouts and entities transferred to respective ULBs, TPs, or GPs. This transparency would greatly benefit the lakhs of site and house owners, ensuring that they are well-informed and prepared for this change.
