Unscientific flight schedule from Mysore Airport

February 22, 2023

Sir,

Mysore Airport, also known as Mandakalli Airport, is literally not serving the purpose. It’s neither helping the officials nor the tourists and to some extent a few cities are convenient for business establishments.

Let’s talk about Mysuru – Hyderabad flights. Both Indigo and Alliance Air flights depart at 19:40 hours (7.40 pm) and 19:50 hours (7.50 pm)  and arrive in Hyderabad at 21:50 hours (9.50 pm) and 22:00 hours (10 pm) respectively.

For a tourist arriving in Hyderabad Airport at 10 pm, baggage collection and an hour’s drive to the city means you check in to the hotel at midnight. So just to sleep a night we have to take these two meaningless flights.

Mysuru – Goa flight departs at 16:00 hours (4 pm) and arrives in Goa at 17:30 hours (5.30 pm) and one hour’s drive to Calangute or Baga area means a day is gone without any tourist activity. This flight is specifically suitable for gamblers who are going to Casinos in Goa.

The Mysuru – Chennai flight serves a few tourists, Visa applicants and businessmen even though it is in the evening time.

Let’s talk about cancelled flights. BLR-MYQ-COK and back was serving better as it was good for tourists travelling to Munnar, Alleppey (Alappuzha) houseboat and Kochi. Adding to that many Kerala business community passengers were flying frequently. Mysuru – Mangaluru was a good flight which was cancelled a year ago. Belagavi and Kalaburagi flights were also cancelled.

We need more flights to Goa which has high demand and we have seen Alliance Air selling at Rs.18,000 one-way during the season. The concerned must think of introducing flights to Shirdi, Tirupati, Kochi, Coimbatore and attract passengers instead of introducing Mysuru – Sindhudurg flight, the destination many never heard of? What was the reason behind this flight? By the way, Mysuru – Sindhudurg inaugural flight on Feb. 1 was cancelled as not a single ticket was booked!

Mysuru has the potential to be one of the busiest airports in Karnataka but the half-baked ideas and planning is making the flyers shy away from Mysore Airport.

Our MP is instrumental for the operation of Mysore Airport and must give his inputs about the shabby schedule and make the departures people-friendly.

Shivamogga Airport is going to be inaugurated on Feb 27 by our Hon PM. Hence instead of Sindhu Durg why not a Mysuru Shivamogga Mumbai flight it might be of use to city businessmen and tourists from Mumbai

  2. Manuel Nelson says:

Very well said and analysed sir.. unnecessarily they stopped the Cochin flight..which was well connected…the same Allianz flight from Bangalore is flying to kochi without landing in Mysore..it’s pathetic..urge to reintroduce the same or think about Kochi-Mysore-Goa sector and back..
Dear MP and Airport Director… please think over

  3. Ashwin says:

How about a direct Mumbai Mysuru flight.High time the two major destinations are connected….Is Mysuru really on the way to be an International Airport??!!

  4. Saad says:

we need flight connectivity to Delhi and Mumbai. This will help many businesses and Tourists.

  5. Sethu Madhavan says:

Mysore Kochi flight cancelation was a disaster. It needs to be reintroduced by any other airline than Alliance.

  6. Jogekal Lingappa says:

Kerala CM wants to annex Mysore, through sheer settling of large numbers of Keralites. He is urging Modi to approve the underground railway tunnel that runs under Bandipur forest. He along with the UAE -resident Keralite businessmen, have lobbied successfully so that there will be a non-stop direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Mysore, when the airport is ready to receive jet aircraft. These are the businessmen who employ criminals to smuggle gold from the UAE to Kerala airports, and sme of which is distributed in Mysore through the Wayanad-Nanjangud-Mysore corridor. These businessmen also successfully operate Hawaala money transactions in Mysore. The Kerala CM want these operations to diverted to Mysore. The businessmen want to expand their above operations into Mysore, and the Mysore-Bangalore Highway suits their purpose so well. In a mtter of years, this Highway will be the gold distribution and Hawaala money operations route extending to Bangalore from Mysore.
Well done!! Keep up more air routes from Karnataka, so that you make the above businessmen very very rich.
In a few years time the settlement of large numbers of Tamils and Keralites in Mysore will achieve what the Kerala CM has aspired-Mysore being an extension of Kerala!

Every thing is thought of unscientificaly be it airlines, railway and even Road. Instead of Vande Bharat and Shatabdi, yhe railways should have run Metro trains between the two cities of Bangalore and Mysore at regular intervals with chair cars. This would have made it very popular and convenient to all commuters and would have done away with need to invest in the express way and saved a lot for the environment.

  8. Abdul Rahman says:

Earlier morning flight from Mysore to Bangalore will be beneficial for travellers who want to catch flight for other destinations from Bangalore

  9. Dear sir
Operating 72 seater aircraft to neaby cities is not cost effective to airlines. Mysore airport is still for namesake and airlunes to avail UDAN benefit are oprsting without any demand survey. Mysore is only incidental airport. Regular fligjts to frequently visited cities can start only when airport expsnsion i.e. Runway expansion to 3.2kms is completed.

    @Shastry
who said Indian professors have brains? Mysore airport appears to be well planned with Mysore planned to attract the companies and industries destined fo r Bangalore. Hence, the 10-lane Mysore-Bangalore Highway. This Highway, perhaps you thought was created for fun? What a fool!
