UoM Academic Council approves PG lecturers as valuators

August 5, 2017

Mysuru: The Academic Council meeting chaired by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayandand Mane approved that the lecturers in Post Graduate departments will also be eligible to become valuators.

This decision was taken at the AC meeting held here this morning at the Crawford Hall after much deliberation. The number of Postgraduate departments have gone up in University of Mysore, as even private institutions have opened PG Centres. As a consequence the load on the valuators had increased as their numbers was not equivalent to the number of students taking the exams.

According to the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Continuous Assessment Grading Pattern (CAGP), it had become inevitable to identify the lecturers to evaluate the question papers. In fact in the undergraduate courses, those lecturers with more than three years experience are eligible to evaluate the papers and the same rule may be extended to the PG courses too. This decision was approved at the meeting.

Alumni association fee rejected

The University of Mysore Alumni Association (UMAA) had sought for the introduction of collecting a minimum sum of Rs. 300 from each student studying in the University of Mysore spread over three years, which would amount to each student paying Rs. 100 to become eligible as UMAA member. Similarly those studying in PG courses had to pay Rs. 300 in two years, which worked out to Rs. 150 per year. Even Research Scholars were also asked to contribute. A circular in this regard was issued by the University to all the colleges and the PG departments during the celebration of the Centenary year.

The idea was to augment the resources of the Alumni Association so that good academic activities could be carried out by the association. They would also become eligible for a lapel pin and other facilities. This move was shot down at the meeting today as it was found impractical.

Registrar D. Bharathi, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. Somashekar, MLCs Appaji Gowda and Ramachandra Gowda, PMEB Director Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi and other Professors from various departments were present.
