Mysuru: Faced with a severe financial crunch, the cash-strapped University of Mysore (UoM) has decided to increase the rent of all guest houses, residential quarters and commercial complexes under its jurisdiction in a bid to bolster its revenues. The decision was taken at the University Syndicate Meeting held at Crawford Hall, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath.
During the meeting, Syndicate Members pointed out that even a modest 10 to 20 percent hike in rents could significantly increase the University’s income.
Taking note of this suggestion, Prof. Lokanath assured that the rent revision would be implemented soon.
In a separate development, several Syndicate Members alleged that some senior teaching faculty across various departments had received promotions despite being ineligible. They urged that these promotions be withdrawn and the matter referred to a Review Committee.
Responding to this, Prof. Lokanath stated that the University would examine the issue thoroughly and address any irregular promotions in the next Syndicate Meeting.
Concerns were also raised over the failure to conduct internal audits and the prolonged absence of a departmental head who is reportedly yet to return from an overseas assignment.
UoM Registrar M.K. Savitha and Syndicate Members Kyathanahalli Nagaraj, Chandrashekar, Gokul Govardhan and others attended the meeting.
