Varsity has 420 vacant teaching posts

October 18, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: As many as 420 teaching posts in the University of Mysore (UoM) is lying vacant, said Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Loknath.

Addressing a press meet at Crawford Hall on Oct. 16, Prof. Loknath  said the vacant teaching posts have been increasing every year with over 420 out of the sanctioned 665 teaching posts lying vacant with no new appointments in recent years. The shortfall in teaching staff has been compensated by guest faculties whose number has touched 900, he added.

Pointing out that the University is seeing a drastic drop in admissions of nearly 10,000 students because of the formation of new Universities at Mandya and Chamarajanagar, which earlier formed part of UoM, he said that before the formation of new Universities, the UoM had control over 232 colleges with about 36,000 students in total.

Noting that with the decline in admissions, the University’s revenues too have witnessed a sharp fall, he said the extent of revenue losses would be known when the admissions get completely over for the current academic year.

Stating that the admissions in all branches of the University’s School of Engineering has been done, barring Civil Engineering, he said the Institution is doing well with admissions full in all other branches.

The UoM has put on hold the establishment of the School of Pharmacy to ensure that the School of Engineering was established in full-scale, he added.
