Vehicle parking fee at Railway Station: Verification needed

July 15, 2023

Sir,

I had parked my two-wheeler on June 2 at around  7.10 pm at the  parking area of Mysuru City Railway Station to catch Talguppa Express to Bengaluru. On June 3, I returned in Chamundi Express train and took my two-wheeler at around 8.55 pm. The parking staff charged Rs. 60. I said it is Rs. 30 for 24 hours and Rs. 10 for next two hours totalling Rs. 40 as per the parking fees displayed on the board.

The staff said, after 24 hours, full charge is applicable for next day and showed me the bottom line — written as “Next everyday” and charges mentioned for 12 to 24 hours in each vehicle category.  Also, the staff informed me that previous contract was on hourly basis and now tender is floated on “everyday” basis.

Most of the parked vehicle owners paid the amount demanded by the parking staff.

It is my humble request to the Railway authorities to clarify whether the:

(a) Tender floated as displayed on the lines of collection “especially after 24 hours”?

(b) Which way 24 hours basis is being taken into consideration in the Tender.

(c) If vehicle is parked in the previous night at 10 pm and collected next day at 2 pm, how many hours or days counted for parking fee ?

(d) Is the collection, as I explained, genuine and vigilance authority aware of it or is this an off-way collection as no receipt is being given in the exit time?

I request the Railway authorities to look into this in the interest of passengers as amount is being collected by the contractor from thousands of vehicle owners daily. And to ensure the legal collection, exit receipt also be made mandatory to avoid such illegal collection (of parking fee)  if any.
