Mysuru: Since the recent protest against the Railway line passing through Kodagu, a video about Cauvery River has become popular. Titled “This is the story of Kaveri (and every river everywhere)”, the video sends out a message that instead of fighting over river sharing, we must find ways to save the Cauvery River which is drying up due to lack of rains. The film is simple and it drives home a message: Bring back the forests. Bring back the rains and let Cauvery flow.
This video has been produced jointly by Reforest India, an initiative of Rajanet Yegneswaran Charitable Trust, a Bengaluru-based NGO and Mysuru’s Cycle Pure Agarbathies. The video has been made in three languages — Kodava Thakk (Kodava dialect), Kannada and Tamil.
“Only forests make rain and store freshwater that feeds streams and rivers. We need to seed the soil, not seed the clouds. This will ensure that our future generations will continue to drink water from Cauvery, and for that matter, every other river”, said Vinod Eshwer, the writer who conceptualised the film, and trustee of Reforest India.
Speaking to Star of Mysore about the video, Arjun Ranga, Partner, Cycle Pure Agarbathies said, “Through this video, we wanted to rekindle people’s reverence towards Goddess Cauvery.”
The video has been directed by Ad film maker K.M. Ayappa, who is the co-founder of Early Man Films based out of Mumbai and the music has been scored by EarthSync India, an audio-visual production company based in Chennai.
