Mysuru: Sri Viveka Balodyana Public School’s 46th Annual Day titled “Viveka Kutumbakam-5” was celebrated at Kalamandira in city recently in the presence of Swami Ishtanathanandaji of Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE), Mysuru.

Senior scientist Dr. S.M. Shivaprasad, Dean and Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad and former Director of Karnataka Government Academy of Higher Education, was the chief guest.

The stage programme began with floral tributes to the statue of Swami Vivekananda.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shivaprasad said, “In the next 15 to 20 years, the world will undergo astonishing changes. Behind technology lies science and by using science, technology is being developed in extraordinary ways. In future, nanotechnology, biotechnology, AI technology and similar fields will bring remarkable changes to the world.”

“Already we have technologies such as driverless cars, buildings constructed without the help of civil engineers and machines repaired without the need for mechanical engineers. Therefore, at a time when technology is expanding into every field, it is essential for humans to receive value-based education to use it safely,” he noted.

Swamiji, in his benedictory address said, “Be it parents or schools, they must create healthy competition among children. If children are encouraged for every small achievement, they will be able to accomplish greater things in future. Under no circumstances should their abilities be measured by comparing them with others. Every individual has their own unique talent.”

Institution’s Secretary M.S. Nagesh also spoke. School President Vasudeva Rao Aroor presided. Vice-President B.N. Prabhakar, Treasurer H.S. Shivashankar, Chief Administrative Officer Bhavani Nagesh and Principal H.M. Suma ensured smooth conduct of the programme. On the occasion, “Balodyana Shri” award, given by the institution to distinguished personalities, was presented to chief guest Dr. Shivaprasad.

Later, students presented dance-drama depicting 10 incarnations (Dashavatara) of Lord Vishnu — Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki. Cultural events included Bhagavadgita shloka recitation, Sanskrit Subhashita chanting, Maruti Stotra and Amarakosha recitation. Teacher Cyril Joseph proposed the vote of thanks.
