VTU Consortium e-Resources Training Programme at NIE

December 9, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) jointly conducted “VTU Consortium e-Resources Training   Programme” here recently.

Educationist and former Principal of NIE, Prof. G. L. Shekar, who was the chief guest, said that teachers have to now learn how to navigate AI transformation in e-Learning. The traditional teaching-learning method of “chalk and talk” were generally replaced by technology-driven teaching using smart boards over a period of time. Now AI has become a transformative force, disrupting e-resources. It is disrupting traditional content generation, assessment and access to information, he said.

Prof. Shekar urged the educators to learn how to harness this ‘disruption’ to enrich the human experience of learning. It is unfortunate that through technology-driven education, there is loss of human connections. He gave a call to teachers to focus on elements of teaching that algorithms cannot replicate. Though AI is an accelerator for e-Learning and e-Resources, human-centered approach is important and should not be compromised, he added.

Dr. Somaraya B. Tallolli, Librarian and Coordinator, VTU Consortium, said VTU e-Resources is designed for students of VTU-affiliated colleges to provide them familiarity with VTU’s vast collection of digital learning material, e-journals, e-books and research database through consortium. VTU provides centralised access to high-quality electronic academic resources.

N. Satyakumar, Industrialist and Hon. Treasurer of NIE Managing Committee, said that with the availability of high-end tools for teaching, the academic integrity and critical thinking should not be comprised.

Dr. K. C. Manjunath, NIE Principal was present. Y.S. Harish, NIE Librarian, welcomed. Dr. P. Parameswara, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, proposed the vote of thanks.
