Sir,
Our city authorities — and much of the public — seem to believe that speed-breakers and barricades are the only solutions to prevent accidents. However, except for national highways, most city roads are already in poor condition, riddled with potholes, encroachments, and random road cuts. Adding speed-breakers and barricades to this mess only worsens the driving experience. Even a short commute within the city feels like an off-road adventure.
A more effective approach would be the installation of CCTV cameras and enforcement of reasonable speed limits, not absurdly low limits like 20-30 kmph. Strict penalty collection for violations and seizure of vehicles without number plates or with damaged ones can also make a big difference.
We hope the traffic authorities will consider these suggestions seriously and work towards improving road safety and easing commuter woes.
