Mysuru: Science Ashram conducted a competition titled ‘Tinkering Challenge-2017’ for students across Mysuru and Bengaluru. Tinkering Challenge was a programme designed for students of Grade V- VIII with an intent to create awareness concerning social issues and hone the problem-solving skills of students. Science Ashram Tinkering lab provides a conducive environment for kids to build projects and encourages innovation.
The programme was conducted in three stages. About 12,500 students from 40 schools participated in the first stage. 600 students qualified for the second stage wherein students were given a case study to solve the problem of ‘Traffic congestion’.
A workshop was conducted at Science Ashram Tinkering Lab for 100 finalists. This included students from Mysuru’s Excel Public School, Royale Concorde International School and Delhi Public School. Students were divided into teams of two each for the final round. They were given a problem statement on the spot and were asked to design a solution in six hours. The students designed and engineered different solutions using various tools and materials from the inventory.
The winning trophy was bagged by Edwin and Harighna of Euro School, Whitefield in the Junior Category and Gourinandana and Greeshma of Euro School, Chimney Hills in the Senior category.The Runner-up trophy was won by Aditi Bhat and Divijaa Arjun of Excel Public School, Mysuru, in the Junior Categoryand Simran Singh and Deepshika Reddy of Ryan International School in the Senior Category.
