Workshop on CPCSEA Guidelines for animal experiments held

Mysuru:  Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), Department of Pharmacology, JSS College of Pharmacy and JSS AHER (JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research), had organised a one-day workshop on CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals) guidelines for animal experiments at Sri Rajendra Auditorium here recently.

The IAEC is committed for safe and proper use of laboratory animal for any kind of research protocols which involves animal studies. IAEC looks after each animal experiments protocol and follows the CPCSEA guidelines in all its activities.

Research aspirants willing to take up preclinical studies needs to be trained for CPCSEA guidelines and the basic techniques involved in animal experimentation is due responsibility  of every IAEC.

There were a total of five scientific sessions that included both in-house (Dr. K. L Krishna, Dr. S.N. Manjula and Dr. C. Saravana Babu) and external expertise (Dr. S.P Muthu Kumar, Principal Scientist and Head animal facility, CFTRI, and M. Saravanan, Head Dept. of toxicology, Vipragen Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru) who gave insights into different aspects of animal experiments and CPCSEA guidelines.

Around 120 registered delegates from across the colleges of the city took part in the workshop.

Dr. T.M. Pramod Kumar, Principal and Chairman, IAEC, JSS College of Pharmacy, was the chief guest. Dr. K.L. Krishna, Member-Secretary, IAEC, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, who was also the Organising Secretary of the programme, welcomed. Dr. S.N. Manjula, Professor and HoD, Pharmacology, proposed a vote of thanks.
