Workshop on Teachers’ capacity building held

Mysore/Mysuru: A UGC sponsored one-day State-level IQAC initiative workshop on “Teachers’ Capacity Building” was organised by JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Ooty Road, here on Feb. 13. 

Dr. Gururaj Karajagi, Chairman, Academy of Creative Teaching (ACT), Bengaluru, in his keynote address said, “a good teacher should have teaching skills and an attitude towards teaching. It is important to bring-out the latent talent in the student. A teacher should match his style with that  of his student’s. It should be student centric. A teacher should adopt himself or herself to the needs of students. Creative teaching is to change our methodology to reach the students. Preparation, content, classroom management, content delivery of the teacher are also important.” He further stressed that values are not taught but are demonstrated. 

Presiding over the inaugural session Prof. S.P. Manjunath, Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, felt that academic atmosphere can be created only by enhancing teaching capacity of a teacher. Learning new concepts and using new methodology is the need of the hour. It may not yield immediately but in the long run it will bring out better result among the teacher and the taught. 

This was followed by two technical sessions by Vivekananda, Dean-Training, ACT and Sheelu Rao, Dean Academic, Handholding, ACT.

Spandana of second year M.Sc (Chemistry) rendered the invocation. Prof. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College welcomed. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, proposed a vote of thanks.  Dr. R. Suhas compered. Dr. B.Y. Sathish Kumar, Event Organising Secretary and staff were present.
