Mysuru: World Cup winning Team India Kho Kho players B. Chaithra of Kuruburu in T. Narasipur taluk and M.K. Gautham of Mandya, will be felicitated at a programme organised under the aegis of Mysuru Zilla Kreeda Mattu Samskrutika Vedike (Mysuru District Sports and Cultural Forum) at Jaganmohan Palace in city at 11 am tomorrow (Feb. 6).
Announcing this at a press meet here on Monday, Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal said that ‘Arjuna’ award winning senior woman Kho Kho player Shobha Narayan will felicitate Chaithra and Gautham, who have brought laurels to the State by playing a key role in India’s historic World Cup victory.
State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shantakumar will preside while noted Mountaineer of the city Dr. Usha Hegde, former University of Mysore Department of Physical Education Director Dr. C. Krishna, Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota President M. Chandrashekar and District Sharana Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Helavarahundi Siddappa will be the chief guests.
Expressing disappointment over Rs. 5 lakh cash prize announced by the Karnataka Government for each of the two Kho Kho players, Maddikere Gopal urged the Government to emulate the Maharashtra Government which has announced a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 crore and a top Government job for its World Cup players.
