Mysuru: As part of World Sparrow Day celebrations, the Department of Environmental Science of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, had organised workshop on “Birds around us and creating an environment for birds” at its premises in city recently.
The workshop aimed to spread awareness about the declining sparrow population and the importance of conserving these beautiful birds. The session was led by the resource person A.S. Pradeep, who shared valuable insights into the lives of sparrows and other birds, as well as the factors affecting their survival.
The speaker introduced the types of birds, their habitats and also highlighted about the reasons for the decline in sparrow population because of loss of habitat, lack of food, scarcity of grains and pollution.

He discussed the practical steps to be adapted to bring sparrows back by providing nesting spaces and reducing pesticide use. He encouraged the students to engage youngsters by creating awareness about sparrow conservation and encouraging participation in local bird-watching and conservation activities. The programme was led by College Principal Dr. B.R. Jayakumari.
