Mysuru: Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha picks up the young artistes who have secured prizes in the Nadakishorotsava in previous years and subsequently have excelled in their musical journey. This weekend, the Mysuru art connoisseurs can enjoy two such music concerts.
On Apr.27 at 6 pm, Vid. Kartik Narayan from Chennai will give a vocal concert. He will be accompanied by Mysore M. Sumanth on violin, Sai Shiva Lakshmi Keshava on mridanga and Sharath Kaushik on ghata.
The 26-year-old Kartik Narayan was conferred Nadakishora Award in 2014. He had initial tutelage from Vishalam Venkatachalam (disciple of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer), Delhi. Subsequently, he learnt under Rajakumar Bharati. Apart from being a B-High grade artiste from AIR, Chennai, he has taken many prizes in various competitions. He has also received many awards from prestigious Sabhas. He has been regularly performing round the country receiving appreciation.
On Apr.28 at 5.30 pm, S.V. Sahana from Mysuru is going to enthral the audience through her veena concert. She will be accompanied by veterans Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma on mridanga and G.S. Ramanujam on ghata. The programme is in memory of M.H. Raja Rao sponsored by family and friends of Raja Rao who was a long time Secretary of the Sabha.
S.V. Sahana is one of the acclaimed veena artistes of the country today. Born into a family where music is first nature, Sahana is recognised as a musician who is mature beyond her years, who has been constantly evolving and refining her musical repertoire. Being the disciple of M.J. Srinivasa Iyengar, a very senior and distinguished veena exponent, she flowered into a concert artiste at the age of fourteen.
Sahana is also one among the select disciples of the veena and vocal virtuoso, Padma Bhushan T.N. Seshagopalan. Presently, she is taking her advanced training under Padma Bhushan Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan. She is indeed fortunate as she has been able to imbibe the revolutionary and innovative techniques of his style.
On the academic front, Sahana is a Master’s Degree holder in Veena (Karnatak music) from University of Madras. She has been awarded the Doctorate in Music from the University of Mysore for her thesis ‘Impact of Advanced Technology on Karnatak Instrumental Music: A Study.’ She is working as a guest faculty in the Department of Veena at University College of Fine Arts, Mysuru, from the past three years.
She is an ‘A’ graded artiste of AIR and Doordarshan. She has secured first rank in senior examination and distinction in the Vidwat exam in Veena conducted by the Karnataka State Secondary Education Board. She has published many articles in reputed magazines and newspapers. She has presented seminars in national and international conferences and won many a prizes and awards. She is a regular performer on veena round the globe.
