Mysuru: Two youths were killed in Mysuru in separate accidents last night. While a youth from Madikeri was killed on the spot near Manasagangothri, another youth who had come on a sight-seeing trip with his friends from Bengaluru was killed in a car accident on Nanjangud Road.

In the first incident that occurred at around 11.30 pm, Rathnakar alias Rathan was killed when he rammed his bike against a bus shelter and a compound wall near Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE). 26-year-old Rathnakar was working as a proof-reader at a local newspaper in Madikeri. He had come to Mysuru on his swanky Bajaj Pulsar bike (KA-12-R-1097) last night to meet his friend Rakshit.

Rakshit stayed at a room in T.K. Layout and Rathnakar used to come from Madikeri to meet him often. According to the Police, yesterday at around 10.30 pm, Rathnakar took his bike and headed out to consume some alcohol. He then proceeded towards Manasagangothri campus where he saw an approaching Garuda Police patrol vehicle from the opposite direction. Speeding under the influence of alcohol, Rathnakar lost control over his vehicle and first rammed against a bus shelter and then hit the   SJCE compound wall.

The impact of the accident was such that the pillar supporting the bus shelter was shattered and the wall bore deep scratches. He died on the spot though some passers-by shifted him to a hospital. Rathnakar hailed from Kadagadalu village in Madikeri and was married one-and-a-half years ago. He was not wearing a helmet.

In another incident, 26-year-old Santhosh was killed on-the-spot last night when the car in which he was travelling with his friends fell into a deep ditch near Golur village on the Nanjangud Road.

According to the Police, Santhosh had come with his friends in a Toyota Etios car (KA-51-B-7433) from Bengaluru for sight-seeing and had been to Male Mahadeshwara Hills and arrived at Nanjangud yesterday night. They had plans to visit Mysuru before heading back to Bengaluru. As their vehicle neared Golur village, Raju, who was on the wheels, lost control over the vehicle and skidded and fell into a ditch. Santhosh who was sitting on the front seat was killed on the spot. His friend Ambareesh, who sustained severe head injuries, has been shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.
