  • Flower Market shifted to J.K. Grounds ahead of Ayudha Puja tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: The full-dress rehearsal for Jumboo Savari procession to be held within the Palace premises on Oct. 26, was held this morning. On account of Ayudha Puja, there will be no rehearsal tomorrow. Dasara elephants will be given a day’s rest ahead of the grand finale.

In view of COVID-19 and as per three-member Technical Team recommendation, this year’s procession is restricted only to 300 persons including elected representatives, artistes, Police and invitees. Unlike usual 5-km procession from the Palace up to Bannimantap Grounds, this time, the total distance of procession will be 500 meters, that too within the Palace premises.

The rehearsal began at 7.45 am and ended within 15 minutes. As Abhimanyu, the Golden Howdah carrying elephant, along with two other Kumki elephants, were brought near the specially erected podium, DCF M.G. Alexander, City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta, DCF Geetha Prasanna, Assistant Director, Department of Kannada and Culture H. Channappa and others, offered flowers to the wooden howdah carrying Abhimanyu. As soon as they offered flowers, the Police Band played national anthem ‘Jana, gana, mana’ and the canons fired for 21 times as a mark of respect to Sri Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysuru.

This was followed by two Nadaswaram troupes, each led by G. Krishnamurthy and A. Puttaswamy with five artistes each troupe, Chande Mela, Stilt walking, Veeraghase Kunita, Chilipili Gombe, tableaux depicting Aane Gaadi with Police Band artistes, Health Department tableau on COVID-19 awareness, Pattada Nadaswara team, Jumboo Savari procession led by Abhimanyu accompanied by four other elephants, Police personnel, Mounted Police, Veterinarians, fire tender and ambulance.

City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandrgupta told Star of Mysore that this year’s procession will end within 30 minutes to 40 minutes following the State Government’s decision to celebrate Dasara in a simple manner. All arrangements are in place for the Monday’s grand finale. Security has been made in accordance with the number of persons invited by the District Administration. Sufficient number of personnel have been deployed at all the gates to prevent the citizens from entering the Palace. Only 300 persons will be allowed inside the Palace premises on the Dasara procession day.

No outstation Police

Due to scaling down of Dasara festivities this year, he said Police personnel from other districts have not been drawn into bandobust duty in and around the Palace, as it will be managed by Mysuru City and District Police. The area in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple will be covered with metal barricades on Monday to check the people from entering the Palace. People must sit at home and enjoy live streaming of Jumboo Savari in all Kannada TV channels and on social media platform.

COVID-19 testing

Department of Health conducted RT-PCR test for all artistes in the Palace premises. Two to three doctors in PPE kits collected the swab from them. Results will be sent to them by evening. That report should be showed at the time of entering the Palace premises on Monday.

Breakfast hosted

Former Minister and Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje had arranged breakfast for mahouts, kavadis and assistant mahouts near the Elephant Camp today. Hot on-the-spot masala dosa, piping hot idlis, obbattu, kesaribhath, uddin vada, kaara pongal and lemon tea was served to them. She also had breakfast with them. Shobha has been hosting breakfast or lunch for the mahouts and kavadis since 2008.

    Can we imagine the beauty of having a young child perform these ‘Inagurations’ and the millions of other children whose aspirations it may inspire?

    What a shame and an opportunity going waste… Just a few days ago, the Chief minister traveled once to ‘Start’ the Dasara celebration which should never have been done in the wasteful and harmful way it has been conducted during a pandemic. Now we have the Chief minister traveling again to ‘Inagurate the procession’!!! ?? Does the Chief Minister really have that much time to be traveling back and forth in the time of a pandemic, with hospitals overwhelmed, schools not functioning normally, state reeling with rain that is badly affecting villages and causing havoc in cities whose infrastructure has been destroyed and not fixed even when there are about 7-8 months of dry weather between rains, year after year?? A Chief minister working for the people under these circumstanes should barely have time to eat and sleep the basic amounts required to function.

    We the citizens should put an end to this foolishness and the inordinate amounts of time and money these ‘elected’ officials waste to satisify their narcissitic tendencies. These people are ‘ELECTED TO SERVE US’ not serve themselves!!! These people and their sycophants are not capable of shame until we, the comon person, demands that such wastage of our/public money be stopped.

    The money wasted on this endevour has inadvertantly ensured that thousands of people could have been exposed to a potential infection. All of the wasted money would have fixed hospitals, schools, roads, lights, drains, parks etc. At the least they could have helped get public wifi access so children from families below the poverty line could have used a donated device to get on-line not just for now but even when the health situation improves (long term investment).

    People, please wake up!!. Let’s hold the people to whom we trusted our vote, accountable to serve us. We are not asking them a favour, they owe us for the trust we have placed in them. We even pay them salaries to do their jobs. Let us not pay to ensure they live a life of luxury, carelessness and unltimate destruction for us.

      Very true Sir, unfortunately the people who vote these clowns to power are anguta chaps, who are satisfied with a plate of biryani and one bottle of arrack, on election day. They are not bothered of tomorrow. 20% intellectuals suffer due to 80% of idiots who vote jokers to power.

    @Concerned Citizen
    Why are you surprised to see this happening? I would have thought that you Mysoreans (and Indians) would have accustomed to this grand-standing of your politicians in power.
    Those of you who express your outrage looking at what your CM is doing, will be in for surprise, if you find out what the CM , Kengal in 1950s did. Remember then , the HH Jayachamaraja Wadiyar was in power as the Rajapramukh, later as the governor, and yet Kengal got away with paying special attention to himself, spending money in the process , and that was just less than 10 years after independence!
    Your CM, Yedi the RSS Cheddi, spent your-taxpayers money getting himself admitted to the expensive Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for a few days, saying he had mild Virus symptoms! He must have spent a few lakhs of your-taxpayers money in the staying in the luxurious suite of that hospital.
    If he or even your ‘Namma Doctor’ who appears in conversation in the SOM cared for Pandemic spread, the Dasara celebration would not have taken place. They know very well, that the average Indian has to go the poorly equipped government hospital, if he gets the Virus infection, and there after is left to the mercy of Goddess Chamundeshwari!
    India produced hundreds of saints, has a number of sacred temples, but yet, the moral threshold of an India, particularly if he is a politician in power like Yedi is very low! Well these politicians, these rich doctors and administrators know that they can get away with anything! That is what happens in a third world corrupt country like India.
    Well, India got independence 70+ years ago, but yet you blame the British, for everything you Indians messed up with corruption . At least you cannot blame this on the British, as your OWN CM,ELECTED BY YOU, is indulging in this wasteful pursuits!
    What is your PM Modi ding about such wasteful activities. He could have put a stop to this, particularly your state is ruled by the BJP. He has not!!
    Jai Hind!!

    @Meghadoot! , it is sad to see what is happening in India. People must put a stop to it before it’s too late. I have been residing outside India since 15 years. But every time i visit India nothing much has changed. I work for a Govt. hospital here and it literally looks like a 5 star hotel. Treatment is good and free for all. The Government invests a lot in health, education and infrastructure sector. About 2 years ago I visited KR hospital and nothing has changed there since the day I was born there 40 years ago.

  5. Meghadoot! says:

    @Reader
    I do not live in India, left it decades ago. My government in my Western country has free healthcare at the point of delivery.
    The problem with India, after independence, has always been corruption at every level-political, institutional and societal. I stopped visiting India long time ago. Hated the harassment at the airport nd the corruption there.

    40 minute Jamboo Savari ? Crores spent on this tamasha, at a time when many are jobless, when many are waiting for charity to stay alive. When will our CM BSY have sense of responsibility and common sense? NEVER. He should learn a fundamental lesson that a person in power cannot please everyone. This circus by a pack of jokers in power, could have been avoided and no one would have blamed the Govt. for not conducting Jamboo savari.

  7. Hello, hello! says:

    @ A V
    What was your PM Modi who has the propensity to dish out advice to other leaders of the world what they should do, doing all this time, when Yedi was running amok?
