Bagalkot: A 58-year-old man died when his two-wheeler was hit by a car allegedly belonging to the son for the Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, Police said on Tuesday.
As per the Police, the deceased, identified as Koodaleppa Boli, a farmer by profession, received severe injuries on his head as well as the body when his two-wheeler was hit by the car on Monday night near Koodalasangama Cross on NH-50 in Hunagunda taluk of the district.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.
Speaking to media persons here, Chidananda Savadi, son of the Dy.CM, said: “I agree that the car that hit the rider belongs to me but it was driven by my driver. I was with my friends in another car, which was over 30-km ahead. As soon as I was alerted to the incident, I rushed to the spot and helped the man to shift to hospital.”
“I have neither threatened any person nor made an attempt to escape from the accident spot. On humanitarian grounds, I will also help the deceased family,” he added.
The Dy.CM too claimed that his son was not driving the car. “My son only helped the injured person to get admitted to the hospital,” Laxman Savadi said.
The Police have registered a case and initiated investigations.
