Plea to admit children to Maharaja’s High School

May 31, 2019

Mysore: The President of Maharaja’s High School and PU College B.S. Sridhara Raj Urs has appealed to the people in city to admit their wards to the 186-year-old institution with a rich history.

“Maharaja’s High School was started in the year 1833 as Raja’s Free School at Nazarbad by the then Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. It is the mother of Maharaja’s High School, Maharaja’s Pre-University College, Maharaja’s Degree College, Yuvaraja’s College, which finally led to the establishment of University of Mysore in 1916,” he said.

Sridhara Raj Urs, who was the former Director of State PU Education, has stated in a press release that, “The School with such a glorious past has alumni who have achieved international fame. Well-known English author R.K. Narayan, Kannada novelist Chaduranga, former Reserve Bank of India Governor H.V.R. Iyengar, former Chief Minister D. Devaraja Urs, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore D.V. Urs, theatre person and film director M.S. Sathyu, politicians Vedantha Hemmige and A.H. Vishwanath, Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy, Dr. Chandrashekar of Aditya Hospital and many others were its students. As the School grew in strength and was unable to accommodate all of them, Maharaja’s Bifurcated High School was started at Nazarbad.”

“Due to proliferation of Schools in and around Mysuru, the strength of the School dwindled in recent years. Maharaja’s High School and PU College Alumni Association adopted the School for overall development. No amount of external support can improve a School unless it is matched by School staff and the Head of the Institution. The School is headed by Dr. Mahesh and has been making good progress under his stewardship,” he said.

“This year the result has improved and further improvement is expected during 2019-20. Many old students like Dr. Chandrashekar, Advocates Shivakumar and Shivaprakash have come forward to help the poor and economically backward class students and improve the School infrastructure. Hence, the institution is hoping that more parents will come forward to seek admission for their wards in this Raja’s Free School,” Urs said.
