Mysuru: Even as the 10-day Dasara festival drew to a close, the City Police got a thumbs-up for the security arrangements for the smooth conduct of Jumboo Savari on Tuesday, marking the culmination of the festival.

Lakhs of people had thronged the entire procession route covering about 5 km, to witness the Jumboo Savari and Torchlight Parade at Bannimantap Grounds. While over 10,000 Police personnel who included 14 SPs, 54 Dy.SPs, 153 Police Inspectors, 336 Sub-Inspectors  Home Guards and other Policemen, kept vigil on the events of the Dasara finale on Tuesday, the Mobile Command Centre, equipped with numerous features to monitor security deployment, was stationed outside the Palace.

While 4,000 Cops were from city, 6,000 other Police personnel were drawn from other districts for security arrangements. 

On Tuesday, entry to the city Palace from where the Jumboo Savari took off, was allowed  to only those who had passes.

Police Inspectors from Mysuru were deputed at all the entry gates of the Palace and Bannimantap Parade Grounds. To ensure free flow for traffic, the Police had made special parking lots for vehicles and also restricted vehicular movements on a few streets. As a safety measure, ambulances and fire engines were stationed at several places. Also, the staff of K.R. Hospital, Jayadeva, JSS, Apollo BGS, Columbia Asia and other hospitals were asked to be ready to meet any medical emergencies.

As another security measure, about 167 cameras were installed at the Palace, 323 along the procession route and at Bannimantap Grounds and 3,400 cameras in private places to keep a watch on Dasara events and procession. With 3600 camera surveillance and devices monitoring images fed from cameras along the procession route, the Mobile Command Centre stationed at the Palace, also accessed live images from three drone cameras used by the Police from the Palace to the Bannimantap Parade Grounds.

Besides, a strong posse of Policemen, one platoon of immediate backup support commando, two platoons of  Mysuru City Commando, three teams of State Disaster Relief Force, one Garuda Force, 30 Mounted Horse Force, 30 Anti-Sabotage Check teams, 30 Dog Squad teams, three Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, one mine-detection team, 34 battalions of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), one battalion of Women KSRP and 20 City and District Armed Reserve teams, were on duty.

Overall, the Police were on a high alert and ensured that no untoward incident was reported during the Jumboo Savari.

City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna, DCPs M. Muthuraj and B.T. Kavitha, SP Ryshyanth had formulated the Dasara security arrangements.
