Mysuru: Research is a systematic approach which attempts to provide solutions to problems based on collection and analysis of data, said Dr. Srikantaswamy, Academic Consultant, NAAC, Bengaluru.
He was delivering a keynote address during the inauguration of a one-day State-level Workshop on ‘New vistas in Social Science Research: Issues and Challenges’ at Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, PG Centre, here recently.
During his speech, he briefed about the concept of reflection and critique in addition to explaining about Social Science research and its essential components and principles. He also enlightened the research scholars on how to overcome the challenges by finding solutions.
Earlier, the workshop was inaugurated by Dr. R. Shivappa, Registrar of University of Mysore.
Gundappa Gowda, Hon. President, Vidyavardhaka Sangha, who presided over the event, called upon the scholars to undertake research on problems faced in rural areas besides requesting them to conduct research on freedom fighters.
Dr. S. Mari Gowda, Principal, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, Prof. S. Poornima, Prof. G. Prashanth Kumar and College Managing Committee Chairman T. Nagaraju were present.
The inaugural event was followed by two technical sessions. The first technical session titled ‘Critical Review of Literature: A Comprehensive Outlook’ was addressed by Dr. Khaiser Jahan Begum, Professor (retd.), Dept. of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore and the second titled ‘Statistical Packages in Research’ was addressed by Dr. G. Srilakshminarayana, Associate Professor – Quantitative Methods, SDM-IMD.
This was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Issues and Challenges in Research.’ Dr. C.K. Renukarya, Director, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana PG Centre, Mysuru, moderated discussion which had Dr. M. Indira, Professor (retd.) Department of Studies in Economics, University of Mysore and Dr. Suresha, Professor, Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore, as panellists.
