Mysuru: The century-old University of Mysore (UoM) will soon be renamed as ‘Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Mysore University,’ said UoM Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane, during Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar birth anniversary celebrations, organised by the University at Crawford Hall here this morning.
Prof. Mane was replying to the suggestion of Dr. C.S. Dwarkanath, Advocate of Karnataka High Court, who was the chief guest at the celebrations.
Dr. Dwarkanath, in his inaugural address, had suggested that it would be good if University of Mysore was renamed after its founder Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
Reacting to this suggestion, Prof. Mane said that a decision in this regard would be taken at the Syndicate meeting to be held on June 22 and added that a proposal would also be sent to the State Government.
Earlier, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Nalwadi by the dignitaries to mark the celebrations. UoM Registrars D. Bharati and Prof. J. Somashekar were also present.
Pramod Devi Wadiyar on hearing about the suggestion to rename the University after her grand-uncle-in-law said that she was delighted to hear about renaming the University after the founder. “It would be a befitting tribute to the founder Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, especially when the University celebrated the centenary recently,” she said, speaking to Star of Mysore.
Central College founded in 18816 was also part of UOM to start with until 1964 when Bangalore University was formed. Now that Bangalore University is being trifurcated, Bangalore Central part should also be named Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Bangalore University.
These people don’t have any work to do on teaching field.. is it required to rename after so many years…. There will be an attachment towards the name for people connected to it.
Please stop this non sense……
it should be only “NALWADI KRISHNARAJA WADIYAR” UNIVERSITY.
