June 20, 2017

Including Local Area Development grants from MLAs and MLCs

Mysuru: MPs’, MLAs’ and MLCs’ Local Area Development (LAD) Funds of nearly Rs. 1,000 crore worth works are still pending in the State,  said Renuka Chidambaram, Principal Secretary Planning Programme Monitoring & Statistics Department, Government of Karnataka, here this morning.

Addressing a review meeting with officials at DC’s office, she said compared to other districts, Mysuru had done fairly well in utilising the funds.

Most of the works in the State have been pending over the past few years citing various reasons such as change in implementing authority and technical reasons, she said.

Stating that there was lack of accountability, Renuka said at the time when H. Vishwanath was the MP he had given approval for works worth Rs. One crore but even after four years the works have not been completed  and added that works worth Rs. 3.58 crore approved by MP Pratap Simha were also pending.

Renuka called on the officials to coordinate with elected representatives to avoid confusion, to update on the progress of works and also to get information on change of implementing agency.

She also mentioned that not more than 25 percent of the total funds should be kept pending and added that nearly 163 works till date from 2013 were pending in Mysuru.

She said that officials must prepare the estimates for at least 100 pending works out of the 163 works in the next two months. She added that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah was taking personal interest in reviewing the works taken up under such funds.
