November 7, 2021

Gonikoppal:  A First PU girl student, risked her life by jumping into a lake to rescue an elderly man who had jumped into a lake to commit suicide. The incident took place at Seegatodu village in Ponnampet taluk yesterday afternoon.

While the elderly man has been identified as 65-year-old Aleel of Gonikoppa, the brave PU girl student is M.S. Namratha, daughter of Shanthi and Shabareesh couple of Seegetodu village. Namratha is pursuing her First PU course at Sarvadaivatha College in Aravathoklu village.

Yesterday, Namratha, who returned from her college at about 1.30 pm, saw an elderly man walking on the lake bund in front of her house. While Namratha was still observing, the elderly man removed his slippers and jumped into the lake.

Shocked on seeing the man jumping into the lake, Namratha, who informed her mother about the incident, rushed to the lake and jumped into it. She then caught hold of the man’s legs and despite being kicked by the man, Namratha did not let go of the man’s legs. She then managed to drag the elderly man to the lake bund.

Namratha’s mother, who had reached the lake by then, helped her daughter and both of them dragged the elderly man to the lake bund and rescued his life. They then collected the mobile phone of Aleel’s family members, informed them about the incident and admitted Aleel to a hospital. It is learnt that the elderly man was suffering from health problems and had decided to end his life.

I informed my mother about it, rushed to the lake, jumped into it and rescued him. My mother too helped me to rescue the man. My swimming came handy now, I am happy about it,” she added.

Thanks for saving a life But Knowing our police and the media very well. she should thank her stars that the man survived to tell the truth. Otherwise today she would be in jail and the all the news media would be screaming on all channels about how a Hindu girl murdered an innocent Muslim man by pushing him to water. And ndtv and india today would be probing here nonexistent connections to Hidutva. Have you people learnt nothing so far? If honest NCB officers and even judges can be accused ordinary people don’t stand a chance. Why do you think people leave the dying man on the streets of Mysore and don’t even care? That is the contribution of our media and the police to the society, This story goes to show that there are still some people who don’t know our ecosystem.

    Mr murthy needs immediate treatment.

@Revanna, just to let you know I got my “Treatment’ immediately when I with my friends tried to admit a n accident victim to the hospital. He survived and all it costed was our one months salary to not be arrested to save our job.. And I don’t want any more of your “Treatment ” after my experience. A person who is determined to die will die later if not now. But that may save you from getting your “Treatment “

Kudos to the brave girl. There are not many of this breed! This is really commendable!
I can undertsand Muthy’s remarks! Many have bitter experience with our police and the legal/political system! Unless you have good political connections , such noble deeds can really hurt you especially if you dont have any witnesses! I remember, one of my sisters-in-law had a scooter accident in 90s when she was driving home from work at Mysore as a autoriksha pushed her to the foot path and had a head injury and was in coma for 2 weeks before she recovered! Guess what? The auto driver was spared, eventhough it was busy office hour, there were so winesses coming forward as per police and police promptly showed up at my parents home to investigate if there was a ‘Dowry angle’! The stupidity is, My sister in law was married for 20 years and had 4 kids and not even living with my parents and never gave or got any dowry for any of their children ! The police wanted to be merciful of their old age(80 plus) and spare my parents of any ‘court case’ and ‘investigation’ as it was a criminal(accident) case!! They did not leave until they collected Rs 150 . Our police are no less than Sherlock Homes when it comes to imagination!
A accidental death is too good an oppurunity to spare for then police and death of a Muslim, Christtian or a Dalit is a gold mine of oppurtunities for our politicans and they can not pass it up without any rewards!
