Activists demand to rename all seven airports in Karnataka after eminent personalities of the region

Mysore/Mysuru: Amidst talks about the extension of the runway at the Mysore Airport, a group of activists under the banner of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Kendra Samithi, Bengaluru and Akhila Bharatha Vokkaliga Mahasabha, Mysuru have demanded the Airport be named after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Along with the renaming of Mysore Airport, they have also called for renaming other airports in Karnataka — Shivamogga Airport after Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, Hassan Airport as H.D. Deve Gowda (former PM) Airport, Mangaluru Airport after Nadoja Kayyar Kinhanna Rai, Kalaburagi Airport after Jagadjyothi Basavanna, Hubballi Airport after Kittur Rani Chennamma and Belagavi Airport after Sangolli Rayanna.

Addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan in city yesterday, Hon. President of Akhila Karnataka Vokkaliga Mahasabha and writer C.P. Krishnakumar said that the Civil Aviation Ministry would be requested to consider their demand to rename the airports recognising their contributions to the region.

It is apt to name the Mysore Airport after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar as the late ruler has contributed immensely to the development of the region. Likewise, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu rose to national fame from Shivamogga and if Airports are named after such eminent personalities, their fame would be etched in the memory of people and will also get international recognition, he claimed.

He said that in the past, representations were sent to the Centre which was signed by eminent personalities from Karnataka but the demand was not considered. The State Government must exert pressure to consider the demand, Krishnakumar added.

Puttannaiah. “Over 30 eminent personalities had signed the representation to the Centre but the demand has not been met so far,” he said.

Karnataka Vokkaligara Sangha Director C.G. Gangadhar, Akhila Karnataka Vokkaliga Mahasabha State President Bettegowda, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Pratishtana Trustee A.J. Devaraju, Karnataka Sena Pade District President Tejesh Lokeshgowda and President of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar Vokkaligara Sangha C. Mariswamy were present.

  1. Howdy, Modi! says:

Mysore airport when expanded will receive Boeing 738/AirbusA320 jet liners , and will soon become the choice airport for Gulf States-based Malayalee criminal barons who are smuggling gold through the existing 4 international airports, to expand their operations in Mysore and neighbourhood. Already Nanjangud has come under their influence through Wayanad, and their Hawala operations have extended in the Wayanad-Nanjangud-Mysore corridor. The planned Hassan-Kodagu-Kerala highway , thanks to MP Simha means, Malayalees in very large numbers will arrive to settle in the newly planned Greater Mysore region.
In the above situation, Even if this airport is named after Nalwadi, Malayalee settlers within a few years will change its name anyway. The Kerala government too is eyeing Greatere Mysore as ideal for their citizens to move in and settle. in 2 decades, this Greater Mysore will be speaking Malayalam as the first language, and no Malayalee then would care about Wadiyar history at all.

  2. Yatish says:

Let malayalis settle in mysore, that way atleast there will be diversity and balance, Plentiful of coorgis and dakshin karnataka people have settled in mysore and made it less peaceful, only malayalis can counter them.

Why stop there naming Shimoga airport as Kuvempu airport with a Kuvempu university nearby which ad his son-in-law as the Vice Chancellor?
    1. Name the new 10-lane highway, Kuvempu Highway
    2. The Chamundi Hill Rope Way as Kuvempu Rope Way so that Gowdas of the state can support this construction.
    3. Name Mysore Railay station as Kuvempu Railway station.
    4. A new Kuvempu express train to Bangalore-his sons-in-law and other s in his family getting a free AC seat ride
    5. To suppress the opposition to thepiped gas cconstruction inMysore, where extensive road-digging is involved, name it as Kuvempu Gas, so that Mysore households can cook their food using Kuvempu Gas!
    6. Rename Devaraja Market building-the crumbling building when reconstructed as Kuvempu- Devaraja Market building, so that Gowdas of this city will support its reconstruction.
    7. Rename Mysore university building, now Crawford Hall as Kuvempu Hall, with 10 days of each year following the Dasara ten days is celebrated as Kuvempu Mela here, and school holidays then .
    8. No major road is named after Kuvempu-why not rename Sayyaji Rao Road?
    9. Rename Mysore Pak as Kuvempu Pak and order every restaurant in Mysore to serve it, each day!
    10. Force Modi to issue 100 Rupee notes bearing the figure of Kuvempu.

To quell the opposition to the construction of Hassan-Kodagu-Kerala Highway, nsme it as Deve Gowda Highway!
Don’t ask what Lingayats’ demands will be: JSS airport, Siddaganga airport, Masala Dosa named as JSS Dosa? Will they counter demand renaming Mysore Railway station as JSS Station and a JSS Super Express train?

Why to name Hassan air port as H D Devegowda air port. It is pertinent to name it as Hoisala air port.
