Nanjangud:  Panic created among the residents on Nanjangud on Saturday, when they saw the half exhumed body of a person who was buried the previous night.

It is reported that Srikanta prasad (53), a resident of 13th Cross on R.P. Road in Nanjangud, passed away on Thursday following heart attack and the body was buried on Friday evening at the burial grounds in Nanjangud, after the family members of Srikantaprasad performed the last rites.

But, on Saturday morning, it was noticed that someone had tried to exhume the body as a hand and the head of the deceased was protruding from the mud.

While some said that someone who wanted to take the thumb impression of the deceased may have done such a thing, some others said that enough mud was not covered on the body during burial and some animals may have pulled the hand and head out.

A few others have also suspected that to be the handiwork of some miscreants who may have tried to exhume the body to loot gold ornaments.

It is learnt that a few gold ornaments were placed on the body as a ritual before the burial and miscreants who had thought that the body was buried along with gold ornaments may have tried to exhume the body.

Sources said that when the family members of Srikantaprasad, who came to know about the hand and the head were protruding, rushed to the burial ground and covered the grave with more mud, thus drawing a curtain to the episode.

However, Nanjangud Police inspected the spot.
