A brilliant piece of satire

August 3, 2025

Sir,

The Lighter Side: “A Visit to the Indian Grocery Store in the US” by Dr. R. Balasubramaniam was a truly brilliant piece of satire (Star of Mysore dated July 30). I have thoroughly enjoyed every earlier episode in this series.

Just the title itself sparks delight — and reading it fills my heart with happiness. I inevitably read it twice, simply to savour the finely crafted satire that unfailingly brings giggles. Every line brims with uncanny wit and sharp cultural commentary.

Amidst the dreary headlines of political shenanigans and social distress, Dr. Balu’s humour is a welcome breath of fresh air — it lifts the spirit and restores joy.

While we know Dr. Balasubramaniam for his commendable service to rural and tribal communities, his mastery of satire is equally praiseworthy. I am certain that many SOM readers await each new episode with the same eagerness.
