The University of Mysore has decided to introduce new awards to honour people for their contributions in the fields of Engineering and Technology, Literature and Social Science and Science.
The Academic Council which met yesterday decided to utilise the interest earned out of Rs. 23 crore which includes Rs. 8 crore remaining from the funds released for University of Mysore Centenary celebrations during 2015-16 and Rs. 15 crore which is expected to be saved during 2016-17.
University of Mysore intends to introduce Sir M.V. Visvesvaraya Award for contributions in the field of Literature, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Award for contributions in the field of Social Science and Prof. C.N.R. Rao award for contributions in the field of Science.
This apart, the Academic Council also gave its approval for establishing new endowment awards and medals which includes Prof. Krishnegowda Medal, Banagi Kamalamma Koregowda Jagadeesha Narasimharajapura Taluk Endowment, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa Gold Medal, K.V. Balakrishna Setty Memorial Gold Medal, Prof. K. Bhyrava Gold Medal, Amendment to C.N. Sanjay Dwanyaloka Endowment Gold Medal regulations, Prof. Jamuna Prakash Felicitation Award among others.
It was also decided to provide scholarship for specially-abled with more than 50 percent deficiency who are pursuing their Ph. D at the University. The University will provide scholarship only to those who have not been availing benefits from the government, UGC and other aided-institutions.
